Main component

Throttle body assembly was removed from a (4-AFE) engine from pick a part together with the throttle cable. we find two of them, cost about $70, also i went to onehunga bought a piece of iron sheet

the engine we want to use is :V8 1uz FE Toyota engine The 4.0 L all-alloy 1UZ-FE debuted in 1989 in the first generation Lexus LS 400/Toyota Celsior and the engine was progressively released across a number of other models in the Toyota/Lexus range. The engine is over square by design, with a bore size of 87.5 mm (3.44 in) and stroke of 82.5 mm (3.25 in). It has proved to be a strong, reliable and smooth power plant with features such as 6-bolt main bearings and belt-driven quad-camshafts. The water pump is also driven by the cam belt. The connecting rods and crankshaft are constructed of steel. The pistons are hypereutectic. the exhaust pipe we asked Gerry and took from Unitec, we cut off 2 pic pipe,

Automobile Exhaust system

Exhaust system is created to lessen the noise level as well as the pollutant content of the exhaust in order to diminish the effects on the environmental caused by the vehicles. In automobile, the exhaust system lead the gases created by internal burning engine form exhaust ports of its cylinders till the tailpipe and then out into the atmosphere. Compression and Vacuum: Engine compression testing requires extensive amount of time particularly when there is difficulty in removing the spark plugs and for its exact check, it really requires compression gauge. Engine will fail to start when there is not enough compression, therefore, for an engine to run it requires these things. The availability of sufficient compression to raise air temperature of air fuel mixture, engine should be high enough so that a spark can easily start adequate combustion process. Once the cranking vacuum is more than 3”, there is a great possibility for an engine to run as there is enough compression.

Back Pressure

Back Pressure at the exhaust ports occurs when the catalytic converter and muffler of a standard exhaust system refuse to accept the outflow of gases. This back pressure is being pushed against by each piston; therefore the engine power out exhaust stroke is reduced. Consequently, the pressure has to be maintained in a lowest level so that it will avoid tight bends in the pipe work. A chamber called manifold is where all cylinders pump their exhaust gases into and this applies to a standard engine. Once the manifold is being designed inadequately, the following cylinder will have a back pressure being created as the output of the cylinder. For a progression of the performance, a header together with a collector system is the recommended ones to use instead of a manifold. For a header, it has pipes which direct from each of the ports connecting to a collector where there are individual pipes that easily led into a single pipe. The pipes are designed and shaped in such lengths, and this will allow more spacing for the pulses of gas from the cylinders avoiding roughly and uneven peaks of pressure.

Objectives

1: Get signals from sensor drive by wire. 2: Install a butterfly inside the straight pipe 3: Butterfly movies the same frequency with throttle body, no delay. 4: The butterfly resist airflow when release throttle. What is a de- Cat Exhaust Pipe? IT is an engineered exhaust design to improve horsepower and deliver exciting high performance sound. Therefore it is called de-cat pipe or cat-less pipe because it does not have a catalytic converter. The system replaces a stock of factory muffler and catalytic converter arrangement. The V-8 engine 3.50-inch diameter pipes are replaced with 4.0-inch diameter stainless pipes. In this case, the larger pipe sizes provide a generous new air volume so air exhaust gas flows much more freely and in greater volume than does a stock exhaust system. Than the outcome will be higher horsepower, however the engine torque is reduced Problem- High Performance Vehicle used straight pipe instead of catalytic convertor. The problem being diagnosed is, straight pipe cannot resist the engine air flow especially when the drivers release the accelerator pedal so the torque is reduced.

week 7

Today after class our group members all went to library to discuss the details of our technology project.our topic is is high performance cars used straight pipe instead of the catalytic convertor, but there is a problem, the problem is straight pipe can not resist the engine air flow especially when the drivers release the accelerator pedal so the torque is reduced. we want to install a butterfly in the exhaust pipe and use the accelerator pedal to control the butterfly,it sounds no hard, but if we want to do this project it very difficult to do it that our supervisor gerry said. after the group conversation we were distributed some jobs to do, we have to find some pipe ,the pipe has to be the exact size as the engine exhaust pipe we choosed, i looking for some pipe on line at home, when i was looking for the pipe i was worried about how can we install the butterfly in the pipe and how can we control the butterfly? i was very confused .

week six

i am so lucky , i get 46% for the engines test, thanks for everything. To return to the subject we catch up to sign our contract, after engines class this tuesday our supervisor we choosed Gerry he told us the idea is good, but it is not easy to do the project at last.He show us the dyno machine in the unitec's workshop, it is already fitted with a toyota V8 engine, after we finish the project it will be fitted into REX's s2000,and then the dyno machine will compare the difference between the de-cat pipe fitted. we sign the contract, but that is not enough, there will a long life we have to go, it just a beginning of the project. next step we have to do a plan for our project.
